Friday was a busy day in the NHL. There were 4 games, a coaching staff fired, a trade and a free agent signing.

 

Leafs 2 Devils 1 S/O

Jonathan Bernier stopped 34 of the 35 shots and Phil Kessel scored for the Leafs for a 2-1 win in a shootout.

Cory Schneider allowed just one goal on 28 shots and Michael Ryder scored his fifth goal of the season in the Devils’ 2-1 shootout loss to Toronto.

 

Jets 5 Predators 0

Ondrej Pavelec stopped all 41 shots he faced and Bryan Little scored twice as Winnipeg beat Nashville 5-0. Olli Jokinen scored a goal and added an assist. Devin Setoguchi and Eric Tangradi also scored.

Marek Mazanec came in relief of Carter Hutton and made 22 saves in the Preds 5-0 loss. Craig Smith and Roman Josi each had 5 shots on goal.

 

Avalanche 4 Flames 2

Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 30 saves and Matt Duchene scored his 11th of the year in the Avs 4-2 win over the Flames. Ryan O'Reilly, Paul Stastny and John Mitchell all scored for the Avs.

Karri Ramo made 23 saves and Mike Cammalleri scored 2 goals in the Flames 4-2 loss.

 

Ducks 6 Sabres 2

Frederik Andersen turned aside 24 of 26 shots and Ryan Getzlaf registered a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Ducks to a 6-2 victory over the Sabres. Cam Fowler and Andrew Cogliano also scored for the Ducks, while Corey Perry added two assists.

Ryan Miller allowed six goals on 30 shots and  Mikhail Grigorenko scored two goals in the Sabres loss.

 

News and Notes.,....Ladislav Smid and minor-league goaltender Olivier Roy went from the Oilers to the Flames in exchange for two minor leaguers, goaltender Laurent Brossoit and forward Roman Horak......Edmonton Oilers announced Friday they have reached a verbal agreement with goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov on a one-year contract......Washington Capitals signed veteran left wing Jason Chimera on Friday to a two-year, $4 million contract extension that will run through the 2015-16 season......The Florida Panthers fired coach Kevin Dineen and assistant coaches Gord Murphy and Craig Ramsay on Friday. Peter Horachek, who coached the team's American Hockey League affiliate in San Antonio,was named interim coach. Director of player development Brian Skrudland and professional scout John Madden were added to the staff as assistant coaches.
